Kalas Utsav

Some of Goa's Own Festivals are :
Shigmotsav or Shigmo : This is a grand five-day festival of colours, celebrated distinctively in the villages, corresponding with Holi or Spring Festival. Held for one-week up to the full-moon day in March, Shigmo is universally celebrated in Goa, but especially at Panaji, Mapusa, Vasco-da-Gama and Margao

Kalas Utsav Goa festivals - Goa the colorful and vibrant city in India is very rich in its culture and heritage. It is a place where different races of human beings reside on same plain and set a lofty example of unity in diversity. And it is with due effect to this that different kinds of festivals are celebrated on this land. Of the various festivals, Kalas Utsav in Goa is very popular.

At Sri Morjaee Temple in Pernem, Goa Kalas Utsav is celebrated on every alternate year. In fact to celebrate this festival local people from Maharashtra and Karnataka come here. They attend the socio-religious event organized for seven days at the temple.


The Goa Kalas Utsav is celebrated on a mass scale in the month of Phalgun. This Indian month stands for the months of February and March in English.

Kalas Utsav in Goa starts from Phalgun Shuddha Panchami. As soon as the month for the festival arrives, the preparations for celebrations get started in Morjim village, Pernem taluka, at Sri Morjaee Temple. As it is observed in every two years or say alternate years on a mass scale, so people eagerly wait for it to come.

Lasting almost for a month, the Goa Kalas Utsav has both the religious and social significance attached with it.
